Irish Exports to US up € 1 billion in 2017
Export figures published by the Central Statistics Office show that Irish exports to the USA since Trump was sworn in as President in January 2017 were up €1.1 billion (3%) from 2016 to €33 billion. And compared to 2015, Irish exports to US have shot up by 23%, a total increase of € 6.2 billion.
The biggest increases were in dairy, cereals and other food products, beverages, textiles, medical and pharmaceutical products, power generating machinery and manufactured articles.
Trump's "America First" policies of tax cuts, reduced regulation and energy independence have led to increased investment and economic growth in America. This in turn means that America have imported more goods from Ireland. Some commentators warned that the opposite could happen - that USA would become more isolated and less dependent on imports - but the reality is that people living in strong performing economies purchase more goods, including imported goods.
USA remains Ireland's largest exporting market. The impact of Trump's tariffs is not known yet. He has also attempted to lure FDI back to America.

But that wandering fool Frau drunker will surely line us up for tariffs. Like increasing tariffs on Kentucky Bourbon does it not line up Irish Whiskey for retaliation. You have to be a crazy fool to think that Europe can be powered by electricity generated by wind turbines.
ReplyDeleteBear in mind, that very few industries are so interrelated as whiskey between the USA and Europe. Whiskey must be stored and aged in oak casks. There is some French oak used, but there is not enough and the character of product is different.. The majority is American white oak grown in the deep south surrounding Kentucky.
DeleteBourbon must be aged in new American white Oak casks for one run only. Once emptied, these are sold to Irish, Scottish and Japanese whiskey distilleries. Some are used for brandy and wine production. If placed end to end, the total casks presently in bond in Scotland would stretch from Pert in Scotland to Pert in Australia. There are other types of American whiskey including Rye, corn and Tennessee (Jack Daniels) but the cask use is similar.
A halt in the production of American whiskey would halt the supply of these casks and end European distilling. America could still store its whiskey for a while, but the Irish and Scottish producers would have nothing to store it in. If the EU were foolish enough to place tariffs on US whiskey, it would soon discover it made a huge mistake. Whether they are smart enough to understand this is another matter. The EU cannot win a trade war with America, all we can hope for in Ireland is that the UK does not switch to US farm products which might hit Irish farmers.
Globalisation - out, WTO - out, NATO - out. Out, out, out to a safer and more secure world. Be sure to replace Irish with Mandarin as the mandatory second language!
ReplyDeleteThe E.U. is on the verge of breakup . What will the genuflecting Irish elite do then?. God help us when we need intelligent people to get us out of the mess the Irish Elite have created. Helped by the Irish fake media.
ReplyDeleteWell hopefully Germany will pay up and keep NATO going for another while.
ReplyDeleteWe are already replacing irish language with Arabic.
Germany only pays half of its commitments to NATO. 1% not the 2% required.German banks like Deutsche Bak are in danger of imploding.Mad Ma Merkel mis on the way out . The CSU is fed up with her. The AFD are making big inroads in Bavaria.Depending on Germany as a way out of this infernal EU mess is a forlorn. hope.
ReplyDeleteThe NATO summit saw Trump point to Germany's new deal with Russia for oil and gas. Germany claims Russia is a threat (the enemy) while agreeing to pay it such large amounts. They expect the US to pay for protection against Russia the enemy.. Meanwhile Irish farmers are not allowed sell food to Russia due to sanctions. Trump pointed out that Germany is closing its nuclear power stations and its coal mines while replacing this emergy source with Russian oil and gas. How can that be squared?
